Chelsea must resist the urge to bring back Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard has become a world-class star at Chelsea, but a sensational comeback for the Belgian winger wouldn’t work for the Blues.

Real Madrid are set to sell Eden Hazard this summer and, as you might expect, several sources of information link him to a storybook return to Chelsea. If the Blues want to continue to progress under Thomas Tuchel, they must look to the future rather than revisiting their past with the Belgian winger.

According to Mark, Carlo Ancelotti believes he can ‘get the most out of’ Hazard, but club officials are still keen to sell him to the highest bidder in the coming weeks. Chelse has the financial clout to bring Hazard back to the Premier League, but it is not a decision advised for Stamford Bridge officials.

Hazard may well bounce back from his erratic form at Madrid, but Chelsea are already well supplied with young forwards who need big minutes next season. Bringing Hazard back into the fold would only make it harder for the Blues to accurately aid the development of youngsters like Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Where does Hazard have to go?

The simple truth is that the best option for Hazard is to stay at Real Madrid and ply his trade under Ancelotti next season. He’s the perfect manager for a striker who relies on his style in the attacking third without doing a ton of defensive work.

Reducing Hazard’s workload could be the key to helping him stay on the pitch. His body tends to crack when asked to play at an exceptional rate of work on the wing. Ancelotti is not going to require that kind of effort from his large attackers. This is the reason why relatively fragile veterans like Hazard and Gareth Bale may be able to personally thrive at Real Madrid next season.

Even if Real are ready to sell Hazard for a reduced price, Chelsea are expected to stay out of the fray. They are heading in the right direction under Tuchel and the club don’t need to look to the past to find future success. It is a meeting of tales that the Blues must avoid at all costs.
