Cigarettes and beer: Islanders fans show appreciation for Game 6 overtime win in unique way

Whose tab is it?

As the Islanders potentially played their last game in the Nassau Coliseum, a historic and fan-favorite Long Island site, on Wednesday night, Isles fans showed their appreciation for the 3-2 overtime win over the Lightning in the Alone. way the Long Islanders really know: beer cans.

Shortly after Anthony Beauvillier scored the winner of the game in overtime to tie the series at 3 games apiece, island fans covered the sheet with hats, rally napkins and beer cans (some presumably empty) . Fortunately, no Island player was affected by the Celebration Cans.

SPIEGEL: Islanders delight home fans once again (at least)

While some analysts and media took offense at the sight, the islanders took it all in fun.

“This building which was coming into overtime smelled of cigarettes, and now it smells of beer,” said the Isles Beauvillier winger after his overtime winner. “This place was going crazy. Everyone’s happy we’re going back to Tampa.”

This isn’t the first title to feature hopped nectar in Islanders games: Jets offensive lineman Dan Feeney has become a cult hero to Isles fans, with his beer drinking and mullet ways on display during several Isles playoff games this offseason.

The Islanders’ new turf, UBS Arena, is set to open in time for the 2021-22 NHL season. Before the islands descend the Southern State Parkway to their new digs, they fly south to Tampa for Game 7 on Friday night.

No hockey player was injured in the rampage of the cans.
