The Xbox E3 showcase release featured a preview of the console versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator as well as a big new crossover with the upcoming Top Gun movie: Maverick.
After its PC release last August, it can be easy to forget that Flight Simulator hasn’t arrived on Xbox Series X and S yet, but the wait will be over on July 27, 2021. A new trailer has been released. captured using a Series X hardware in 4K resolution according to Microsoft. Planes of all kinds are depicted flying over oceans, plains, forests and under bridges. The pictures go off without a hitch and give an idea of what gamers can expect from converting PC to console.
Right after the Xbox release date was announced, we see a photo of the ocean and an aircraft carrier stoically floating in the water. The triumphant music begins to swell as a fighter jet launches from the ship’s runway, emblazoned under the cockpit window is “CAPT PETE MITCHELL ‘MAVERICK'”. Top Gun is officially coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator later this year with a collaboration with Paramount Studios to promote the sequel to Tom Cruise’s popular film. The expansion is expected to arrive in fall 2021.
Microsoft has added a lot of content to Flight Simulator since its release. Specifically, support for virtual reality has been added for PC as well as a visual extension to the US region. Having not had a full new entry into the series since 2006, it was quite a hit at launch. In the first month alone, the game had gathered over a million players who had covered over 1.2 billion miles in the game.
Like all recent products from various Microsoft Game Studios, Flight Simulator will arrive on Xbox Game Pass on the day of its release. Again, that release date is July 27 and will arrive on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
