Players should note that progress made in the beta will not carry over to the final version of the game, with progress being erased prior to New World’s official release on August 31.
New World Weapons and Combat
Players will not be adopting classes in New World, but what you earn in Weapon Mastery will unlock skill points and abilities for the weapon of your choice.
Combat and quests will allow you to gain character experience, also granting you attribute points to spend on strength, dexterity, intelligence, focus, and constitution. You gain additional bonuses in these attributes when you reach 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300.
Weapons fall into categories: swords and shields, axes, rapiers, war hammers, great axes, spears, bows, muskets, firesticks, lifestaffs, and ice gauntlets. You can learn more about each of these weapon types on our New World wiki.
New World uses a real-time combat system which is highly skilled, so if you have experience with games such as Dark Souls, you will feel comfortable taking on higher level enemies in New World depending on the requirements. developers.
New World Territories
In New World will have different locations that are predetermined in the world of Aeternum. These separate territories will have their own colony and fort. Settlements allow players to socialize, craft, trade, work on city projects, and support their faction through faction missions.
Players can also claim settlements by first joining one of three factions: Marauders, Syndicate, or Covenant. These three factions will fight for control of Aeternum for territories and resources. To join, players will need to complete the quest line leading to one of these factions.
Within these factions, you can create companies, which are organizations run by players, much like guilds or clans. Companies that have succeeded in gaining control of a colony will also be able to claim the territory in which they are located.
New World Expeditions
New content arriving with this beta includes the addition of shipments. Expeditions aren’t much different from dungeons, which allow up to five players to complete challenges ranging from solving puzzles to defeating menacing beasts. Players are encouraged to work together to overcome these challenges which include bosses, mechanics, all with the ability to earn loot such as unique armor and weapons.
There are a few different Expeditions to explore including Amrine Excavation, Garden of Genesis, Lazarus Instrumentality, Dynasty Shipyard, The Depths, and Shattered Obelisk.
There is a level required for Amrine Excavation, players will need to be level 25 which means this is an “introductory experience” for those who are experiencing Expeditions for the first time. The puzzle difficulty mechanics as well as the AI will be scaled accordingly.
Rush to the New World Outpost
Outpost Rush is another addition to the Closed Beta experience. These are 20v20 PvPvE battlegrounds that you can join alone or join with a small group. These outposts can be upgraded, defended, and used as forward operating bases to push back the enemy. Here players can create everything from spawn points to pots of boiling oil to drop on their enemies. You can also build turrets for extra firepower.
Face off against PvE enemies will mean boosting their side with buffs. The map has a variety of victory conditions, so having the best firepower isn’t always the path to victory.
