NHL trade tracker: List of deals completed during the 2021 offseason
With the expansion draft and free agency here – and a flat cap, to boot – the 2021 NHL offseason should be a wheel and a deal.
“There are a number of teams that – there are just some really big decisions to be made,” former Lightning general manager Brian Lawton told The Associated Press’s Stephen Whyno. “Now it’s fast and furious trying to figure out what they can do.”
When it comes to the expansion draft, teams will be looking to get something for players that they would likely lose otherwise in the draft. Then there’s free agency, which starts on July 28. A number of teams are strapped for cash and are looking to free up space to not only re-sign their free agents, but also attract new players.
A number of big names are said to be on the trading block, including the Sabers’ Jack Eichel. A domino has already fallen: The Blackhawks dispatched three-time Stanley Cup champion Duncan Keith to the Oilers on July 12.
